Gruenes Gedanken vor dem Finale

OK, I’m back. It’s another day in paradise – and it’s the final day. Yes, we got our tickets! Yes, we did have to wait for it! No, we couldn’ see the match for the third place! And yes, there were some rather ugly scenes again. More than tree hours late we could levae the media centre having the holy paper in hands and heading for Frankie’s to get one of the best pizzas I ever had. Rather expensive, but so what. Now it’s Sunday already and I’m sitting in a huge tent, where they put a couple of computers and a few fans. Outside we have around 35 degrees, and inside I cannot mesure the temperature. It’s certainly running down my neck…
Everything is rather quite in accra. Even the victory versus ivory coast did not help o make Ghana happy again. For us it’s a bit like 2006, when germany lost in the semifinale to italy. You have come so far, but you did not reach it nonetheless. Oh well, I think the English reader among you will know what I’m talking about…
Our small adventure has come to a final point as well. Tomorrow there is no African cup any more and we will head straight back to busua to get more sun and chill out. It’s still amazing as well as very nice being here. We still have have the some feeling being owerwhlmed by joy one moment and completely desperate the next. An example? Yesterday Buerte ordered an “American breakfast” – Scramble Egg, Beans and Sausages. When she said “please leave the sausages, I don’t want them”, the waiter was in complete despair. After asking the cook she come back and told buerte, that she has to have the sausages, otherwise she could get the “american breakfast”. It’s amazing, how difficult easy things can get over here.
One thing I’m really looking forward to is … cold and fresh air. It has been quite hot and humid recently and I ALWAYS feel like being baked at the moment. It’s difficult to imagine living in a climate like this forever – I certainly have come to a point where I see a reason for autumn, winter and spring. But ask me again after the first weerk in the german rain…
Now it’s about one and a halve hour to go until kick-off. I guess, some of you will follow the ation via tv. Keep you fingers cross for camerun and have a look for us on the media sector. If you see blond hair, it will be buerte!
